The Provincial Principals opening Prov Grand Chapter

The weather on Saturday 4th July 2015 was magnificent and created a very happy and relaxed atmosphere as 250 Royal Arch Companions of the Province of Warwickshire and other Provinces travelled to Rugby for the 151st Annual Convocation of the Provincial Grand Chapter of Warwickshire.

The search for a new venue proved to be quite exhaustive as a detailed examination of all the options in Warwickshire were explored. Finally it was felt that Warwickshire College, Rugby offered a quality venue at an affordable cost and so the arrangements commenced!

In the end the College lived up to the Province’s expectations and turned out to be a wonderful venue which really strove to deliver what was wanted and an enjoyable and successful day was had.

Proceedings opened with the customary processions into the Convocation under the direction of the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, E Comp David Shakeshaft. First, the distinguished guests followed by the Deputy Grand Superintendent entered and then the visiting Grand Superintendents processed in followed by the Provincial Grand Sword Bearer leading the ME Grand Superintendent together with the Provincial Second and Third Grand Principals.

Provincial Grand Chapter having been opened, the Provincial Third Grand Principal. E Comp Peter Huckle read the Obituary list and led the Companions in solemn prayer. The ME Grand Superintendent, E Comp John L Saint then welcomed the 60 distinguished guests.

E Comp Nigel Hawkins was re-elected as Provincial Grand Treasurer and the ME Grand Superintendent then re-appointed E Comp John F R Handley as his Deputy Grand Superintendent. The ME Grand Superintendent then announced that E Comp Paul Wheeler, Second Provincial Grand Principal having served that office in an exemplary manner for one year would be re-appointed. He also announced that he had appointed E Comp Fredrick G Ditchfield to succeed to that office. E Comp Ditchfield was then presented, obligated and invested as Provincial Third Grand Principal.

Having re-appointed E Comp Philip Gough as Provincial Grand Scribe E the ME Grand Superintendent then went on to reappoint and appoint the remainder of his acting Provincial Grand Officers and made 50 promotions in Past Rank, together with 22 first appointments to Past Provincial Grand Rank.

The ME Grand Superintendent then addressed Provincial Grand Chapter following which Provincial Grand Chapter was closed in peace and harmony according to ancient form.

Some 210 Companions later dined in continuing harmony at the Festive board and went home with good memories of a very warm but wonderful day.
