The day begins with a walk to work

Provincial Grand Chapter of Warwickshire - Annual Convocation

With thoughts of Summer Holidays on the minds of many the Annual Convocation of Provincial Grand Chapter provided a temporary diversion and an opportunity to enjoy what for many is the end of the 'Masonic Season' on 8 July. The tremendous hard work of the committed Ancon Team had transformed the sports hall of Warwickshire College in Rugby into a room of great colour and presence and once filled by Companions it provided quite an impression.

As Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, E Comp David Shakeshaft entered the hall and called the Companions to order and the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent, E Comp Phil Hall opened Provincial Grand Chapter all could be sure that this would be a meeting where hard work and preparation would pay off with an excellent meeting being the result.

Each Annual Convocation is an important one, marking the passing of another year in the life of the Province and as one set of Provincial Officers end their year with a mixed sense of pleasure in a job well done and in disappointment that life will be just that little bit quieter in the future the 'class of 2017' prepare excited and some nervousness for the year ahead, 'will I ever get that address right'?! It is also provides an opportunity for some to receive their first appointment to Past Rank and for others promotion, reflecting their ongoing commitment to Royal Arch Masonry.

Most especially this year marked the retirement of E Comp Paul Wheeler as Provincial Second Grand Principal having first served the Province in active office as Sword Bearer in 2002 and subsequently as Charity Steward, Almoner, Provincial Grand Third Principal before being appointed as Provincial Haggai in 2014. E Comp Phil paid tribute to E Comp Paul in his address outlining how he stands as a true role model to all those appointed to Provincial Office. At the Festive Board E Comp Paul reciprocated and demonstrated his skill at delivering a humorous and yet meaningful toast to the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent.

E Comp Phil was delighted to appoint E Comp John Emms as Second Provincial Grand Principal in the past having succeeded him as Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies and Assistant Provincial Grand Master in the Craft. He is a great addition to the Executive Team with E Comp Philip Gough remaining as Deputy Grand Superintendent and E Comp David Evans reappointed as Third Provincial Grand for a second year so as to allow him to continue his work on education and development.

The meeting also gave the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent an opportunity to address those assembled, to reflect on his first nine months in the role and to announce a number of initiatives aimed at enhancing our links with Craft Lodges, our communities, our support for Chapters and our communications. You can read E Comp Phil's full address HERE.

So as most returned to their cars and to thoughts of Summer the Ancon Team could open up the truck and load the 'kit' with Prov Grand Scibe E, E Comp David Graham able to pack up his files and papers, reflect upon his own Annual Convocation as a 'job well done' and to start planning for next year.

All is in place and ready to begin Keeping abreast of the situation E Comp David Evans, with well chosen words A happy and enjoyable day was had by all
